Black-Mail May 2017

Welcome to the start of May, firstly I would like to wish and ask for each one of you to wish our trusty elders support worker a speedy recovery from her illness that she has had to deal with for many months now. If all goes well for Annette she will be back at work by mid-July.

Jade will still be filling in for Annette for the next three months in Annette’s absence, so Jade I say “thank you for once again stepping in for Annette and helping the community elders program”.

In other news Robert Moyle will be taking over as the transport coordinator role by mid-May, so Robert we wish you good luck with the extra responsibilities.

Changes to ACRC’s funding is still occurring with new TEI reforms taking place as we speak. The TEI reforms are Targeted Early Intervention for Aboriginal children, Aboriginal young families, and vulnerable Aboriginal people. What these changes are going to look like once they are reclassed in the next couple of months I don’t know, but I can tell you that I am attending many meetings so that we can be in the best possible place to make sure that Aboriginal people are represented and that ACRC can have every chance of receiving funding so that we can continue to help the Blue Mountains Aboriginal community.

Wellington AMS now have a contact toll free number (1800 875 173) for those wishing to access the H4L program. From all reports the Mt Druitt AMS is going well and plans for a new AMS in Penrith is well in the planning process, so a big thankyou to Darren ah-See, Jamie Mathews and all the team from Wellington and Mt Druitt for all your efforts and hard work. For the community health and wellbeing I wish you all the best, for if you don’t succeed our community will be left without another culturally safe service, which no-one wants. So once more, the best of luck Daren to you and your team.

I wish everyone a good month and until next time take care and treat each other well, as you never know when you may need help and who will be there to help you, nor may we every know what others are facing in their daily lives.

Wayne Cornish
